Joshua Kimmich has clarified why he chose to extend his contract with Bayern Munich despite strong interest from Paris Saint-Germain.
Speaking to ZDF, the German midfielder highlighted his attachment to the club, family considerations, and Bayern’s sporting ambitions as key factors.
“Bayern Offers Everything I Need”
“When you play for a club like Bayern, feel comfortable in Munich, and have your family settled there, it’s an essential factor,” Kimmich explained. “But the club itself is also crucial. After ten years here, you realize that not many clubs in the world can compete. There aren’t many that make you feel like leaving for a ‘bigger step.’”
PSG Showed Interest, But Stability Won
With his contract set to expire this summer, Kimmich acknowledged that for the first time in his career, he had the opportunity to engage in talks with other clubs. PSG was among those interested, but in the end, he prioritized staying in Bavaria.
“It was flattering to receive interest from other clubs, but I had to choose the best project for my career and family,” he said. “I carefully considered all options and wanted to make an active decision for Bayern.”
Ultimately, his belief in Bayern’s future ambitions sealed the deal:
“The most important thing for me was the sporting project. As an athlete, you only have about 15 years, and you want to achieve as much success as possible. I asked myself: Can I do that here? And I believe the answer is yes. We have a great coach, a promising squad, and players who have committed their futures here. That was key. Is this club ambitious enough to win the Champions League? I truly believe it is.”
