Chelsea is facing a defensive crisis with numerous injuries: a return for Chalobah is being considered this winter.
Currently sitting in fourth place in the Premier League after 20 games, Chelsea is going through a challenging period marked by injuries in its defensive lineup. Following their recent 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace, the Blues received more bad news: Wesley Fofana, who is suffering from a hamstring injury, could be sidelined until the end of the season. This situation has pushed the London club to consider strengthening its defense during the upcoming winter transfer window.
Among the seven defenders on their radar, Chelsea may opt for an internal and cost-effective solution. According to Sky Sports, the club is considering recalling Trevoh Chalobah, who is currently on loan at Crystal Palace.
A convincing season at Selhurst Park
Having been loaned out in the summer of 2024, Chalobah has secured regular playing time under Oliver Glasner’s leadership. The English defender has appeared in 14 matches across all competitions, including 12 in the Premier League, where he has impressed with 3 goals. With a contract at Chelsea until 2028, Chalobah could be recalled, as the club has the option to terminate his loan if necessary.
A strategic decision
As the Stamford Bridge club explores other options on the market, recalling Chalobah would provide a quick solution to cover Fofana’s absence. With the Premier League and other competitions coming thick and fast, Enzo Maresca will need to find a reliable alternative to strengthen his defense.
