The Süper Lig clash between Galatasaray and Adana Demirspor, played this Sunday as part of the 23rd round, was abruptly halted at the half-hour mark following an unexpected incident.
With Galatasaray leading 1-0 thanks to an Alvaro Morata penalty (12′), the referee awarded a highly controversial second penalty after Dries Mertens appeared to seek contact and fall deliberately.
Enraged by the decision, Adana Demirspor players protested fiercely before walking off the pitch, refusing to resume play after discussions with their club officials.
With no alternative, the referee was forced to suspend the match permanently, leaving the Turkish football authorities to determine the outcome of this unprecedented situation.
