Kylian Mbappé may now be the highest-paid footballer in Europe at Real Madrid — but it came at a huge personal cost.
According to reports, the French superstar rejected a staggering €250 million package from Paris Saint-Germain to extend his contract for the 2024–2025 season. This jaw-dropping figure included salary, bonuses, and image rights — a 20% increase on the €210 million he earned during his final year in Paris.
A New Chapter… with Less Money?
At Real Madrid, Mbappé earns a gross salary of €32 million per year — still Europe’s highest — but well below what PSG offered. However, to compensate, the Spanish giants granted him an unprecedented 80% of his image rights — far more than the usual 50-50 split the club offers even to its biggest stars.
He also secured a €100 million signing bonus, making the overall deal still historic, though more balanced financially.
Mbappé’s move to Madrid wasn’t about the money — it was about finally fulfilling a dream. And in doing so, he passed on one of the richest deals in football history.
