Ángel Di María has had the unique opportunity to play alongside both of football’s greatest stars: Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
In an interview with InfoBAE, Di María shared his opinion on the eternal “GOAT” debate (greatest of all time), and his stance is clear and decisive.
Regarding Ronaldo’s recent claim of being the best player in history, Di María wasn’t surprised. “I played with him for 4 years at Real Madrid. It was always like that. He’s always made those kinds of statements, always trying to be the best. But, well, he was just born in the wrong era, because another player was touched by the magic wand. The reality is reflected in the numbers. One has 8 Ballon d’Ors, the other 5.”
Unsurprisingly, Di María chose his fellow Argentine Lionel Messi. “There is a very big difference,” he stated. “Being a World Cup champion is another huge difference. And then, you see him in the matches, you see him every minute of every match. Messi plays as if he’s in his own backyard, and he’s been doing that for 18, 20 years. For me, Leo is the best in the world and the best in history, without a doubt.”
