Rayan Cherki Stays at Lyon and Moves On from Transfer Saga.
Rayan Cherki remains at Olympique Lyonnais, despite a previous agreement allowing him to leave during the winter transfer window. Borussia Dortmund, ready to pay €22.5 million, was convinced they had secured the young playmaker and even sent a plane to Lyon to finalize the deal. However, club owner John Textor blocked the move, believing Cherki was now worth over €30 million.
A Costly Decision for Lyon
This last-minute reversal came at a cost—€2.5 million, a sum that was directly paid to Cherki by the club. However, the player himself does not seem frustrated by the failed transfer. Despite his interest in joining Dortmund, Cherki is fully focused on the rest of the season with Lyon.
Fonseca Counts on Cherki for the Season Ahead
New OL manager Paulo Fonseca sees Cherki as a key asset for the remainder of the campaign. With the transfer window now closed, the talented attacking midfielder could rediscover his best form and help Lyon climb the standings in the second half of the season.
As for his future? A summer move could still be on the horizon…
