Lamine Yamal is gradually becoming the new idol at Barça. The young forward doesn’t forget the legends of the past and cites Neymar as a major inspiration.
In an interview with CNN, Lamine Yamal expressed his admiration for the Brazilian star who once dazzled at Barça before moving to PSG in 2017. The 17-year-old forward shared the impact Neymar had on him:
“Neymar has always been my idol… a star, a legend. I was five years old when I first saw Neymar at Santos… and seven years old when I saw him at Camp Nou. It was incredible!”
However, Lamine Yamal didn’t want to choose between Lionel Messi and Neymar:
“Yes, Messi was there, and he was also incredible. Neymar was totally different,” he stated.
Barça Contract Renewal
Under contract until June 2026, Lamine Yamal (17 years old, 21 appearances and 6 goals across competitions this season) is set to extend his stay with FC Barcelona. This move has been confirmed by the winger himself.
“I don’t know exactly when it will be signed, but I think very soon. After all, Barça is my life. I hope to renew my contract and stay with them as long as possible. I want to play in La Liga. I want to play for Barça. And yes, I will extend,” explained the European champion with Spain to CNN.
Lamine Yamal is expected to sign until 2030. This extension highlights Barça’s confidence in his talent, even though financial details are yet to be confirmed.
