OM Bounces Back, but Internal Tensions Rise.

After a run of three winless matches, Olympique de Marseille got back on track with a 3-2 victory against Lyon in the Olympico. However, behind the scenes, tensions were running high.

The club’s management is keeping the pressure on. According to L’Équipe, sporting director Mehdi Benatia took decisive action, calling a meeting with five senior players to address concerns following the defeat to Nice.

Benatia Takes a Firm Stand

Balerdi, Højbjerg, Rabiot, Kondogbia, and Rongier were summoned for a reality check. The key message? Marseille’s lack of intensity and poor attitude needed to change. “Lost duels, lack of intent, hesitant behavior… Benatia made it clear that the team’s image was not acceptable,” reported L’Équipe.

His tough stance seems to have paid off, as OM responded with a much more committed performance against Lyon. Now sitting as PSG’s closest challengers, Marseille will look to maintain this momentum on Sunday against Angers in Ligue 1’s 21st round.
