The legal issues surrounding Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, president of PSG, will not impact Qatar’s investments in France, despite some rumors.
The speculation about Qatar possibly distancing itself from PSG arose after the announcement of Al-Khelaïfi’s indictment for complicity in abuse of power in the Lagardère case. However, this information was quickly followed by an official denial. According to Le Parisien, this indictment will not affect Qatar’s investments, particularly those made through the sovereign wealth fund QIA.
There were also rumors suggesting that Qatar might pull out of PSG and BeIN Sports, but these claims have been firmly denied by Qatari authorities. They have reiterated their economic commitment to France and expressed full support for Al-Khelaïfi.
The case in question revolves around an alleged attempt to influence a key vote by the Qatari sovereign fund, which held a significant stake in the Lagardère Group in 2018. QIA clarified that Al-Khelaïfi did not play a decisive role in the decision-making process and that the fund’s decisions are made independently.
