With his contract expiring in June, Jonathan David is heading into a decisive summer. The Lille striker, who has scored 14 goals in 24 Ligue 1 matches this season, is attracting plenty of interest—but he remains cautious about his next move.
With the 2026 World Cup partly taking place in his home country, Canada, David knows he can’t afford a misstep.
“With the summer coming up, I don’t know if I’ll stay at Lille. If I leave, I’ll have to raise my level. I’m not sure I’d be a starter at a big club. Next season will be very important. I’ll have to make a smart decision,” the Canadian international told CBS Sports.
David has recently expressed his interest in La Liga, but he’s keeping his options open. His priority is to join a club that will trust him and give him regular playing time—crucial for his development and preparation for the World Cup.
