The Paris Saint-Germain made only one signing during the winter transfer window: Khvicha Kvaratskhelia from Napoli. However, the actual cost of the transfer exceeded the initially announced amount.
Kvaratskhelia’s Impact at PSG
The Georgian winger had a mixed start in Paris but is gradually establishing himself in Luis Enrique’s squad. He was even named Man of the Match in PSG’s recent victory against Lyon. However, this success sparked controversy, as John Textor lodged a complaint with the LFP’s legal commission, questioning the legality of Kvaratskhelia’s registration, alleging that the transfer was financially supported by Qatar.
PSG Still Owes €56 Million to Napoli
While the transfer was initially estimated at €70 million, PSG actually agreed to pay €80 million to secure Napoli’s star forward. Instead of an immediate lump sum, the French club structured the payment in installments to comply with financial fair play regulations.
According to Gaetano Brunetti from Areanapoli:
- €24 million was paid in January.
- The remaining €56 million will be paid in four installments of €14 million each.
Despite this lucrative deal, Napoli now faces the challenge of replacing Kvaratskhelia, which could prove to be a costly endeavor for the Serie A club.
