Lionel Messi Considering a Return to Barcelona? According to journalist Alex Candal, Lionel Messi is reportedly considering a return to Europe, with FC Barcelona as his preferred destination.
After leaving for Inter Miami in 2023, the 37-year-old Argentine has allegedly expressed his desire to play at the new Camp Nou before retiring. “I can’t stop without first playing at the new Camp Nou,” the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner is said to have remarked.
Barcelona’s management is reportedly assessing the feasibility of a return this summer. Despite his age, Messi remains highly effective, recording 35 goals and 20 assists in 41 matches for Inter Miami.
A Realistic Comeback?
However, this possibility was quickly dismissed by Guillem Balague, Messi’s biographer. He claims that a return is impossible as long as Joan Laporta remains club president. Balague also believes that Inter Miami is likely to convince Messi to extend his stay in the United States.
While rumors persist, Messi’s return to Barça remains highly uncertain.
