During Real Madrid’s 3-2 victory over Manchester City in the Champions League playoff first leg on Tuesday night, Aurélien Tchouaméni was once again deployed as a center-back, a role he has been forced into due to the club’s ongoing injury crisis in defense. However, despite his reluctant adaptation, the French international has made it clear that he does not enjoy playing in this position.
“Do I Like This Position? Not at All”
Speaking to Canal+ after the match, the 25-year-old midfielder did not hide his lack of enthusiasm:
“Do I like playing in this position? Not at all (laughs). But the most important thing is helping the team. Right now, we have injuries, and while I prefer playing in midfield, when the coach tells me I have to play at the back, I have no choice—I have to do my job.”
A Sacrifice for the Team
Despite his discomfort, Tchouaméni remains professional and committed to the team’s success.
“I try to give my best, even if some people don’t like it. In the end, I stay calm, focused, and always ready to help the team as much as possible to win games.”
